I just haven't had time to print these yet. Finally, the ugly PVC tubing that is holding the roots of the Anubias will be replaced by 3D printed contraptions. I imagine the slowly but steadily expanding carpet of micro sword may consume essential nutrients, but I have yet to figure out what it is. Also, we are having problems with pest snails, courtesy of a well known retailer of plants, and Anubias barter that are not doing well. We have given away a dozen fish to permit the remainder in the 40-gallon to go in the 30-gallon, while the 40-gallon tank is switched out for. The tanks are not very pretty at the moment. We do not have any extra space, so the latter tank is to be replaced by the 60-gallon. We like bottom dwellers and hence tanks with a larger surface at the expense of height.Īs requested, I am attaching pictures of the 30- and 40-gallon tanks that the have. This time around, I am fortunate in having access to a 3D printer, so it should be easier than last. I did something similar for the Tidal 55 in the 30-gallon tank that we have (shown in the first picture attached). I purchased the Tidal 110, but realized that I will have to fashion another telescoping tube, because it is going in a new 60-gallon tank that is only 17 inches deep. If you have any further questions please don't hesitate to reply. That being said, cleaning the substrate is a very important part of tank maintenance and should be done with regular water changes regardless of filtration. Flow is important, but if it doesn't circulate throughout your tank, due to decorations, etc, then you'll get spots of deposition. I mentioned current specifically as it's what will keep sediment suspended in the water for your filter to remove. Running two filters has the benefit of increasing the amount of current throughout the tank and will allow you to alternate cleanings to maintain optimum biological filtration. For your newer tank, I'd go with a 110, or better yet, two 75s. If flow is ever too much, it's a simple matter to reduce it while maintaining the extra media for filtration. This gives me options in the future should I upgrade to a larger tank and provides more space for media. In my opinion as a hobbyist, there's no such thing as too much filtration and I always go at least one step above what a manufacturer rates a filter for.
